Goal
Design a best-in-class EV charger experience that is:
• Tangibly human
• Accessible for all
• Adaptable to existing charger hardware
Hardware meets software
Working with Mechanical Engineers, Researchers and senior stakeholder across Europe I lead the research, design and project co-ordination for the development of a EV charger OS and Design System.
Activities like team cross-country EV-safari (driving from London to Brighton with stakeholders via EV) allowed us to iterate further our 'How to support new drivers?' research. Actualising the challenges of using an EV for the first time helped us to develop our research hypothesis into the question, ‘How can we make 1st-time EV drivers experts using our charger?’
This focus on 1st-time EV drivers eventually created the best experience for everyone.
An example of this philosophy can be seen via the ‘ProTips’ advice shared with users on static 'low interaction' states across the user journey. Our research showed that EV car owners, old and new, needed support in understanding the nuances of EV charging and battery maintenance. ' ProTips allowed us to meet this need by passively educating drivers without interrupting their charging experience.
